Ash growled in frustration and turned around, searching the room. "I don't care what you say, it's my fault," she said. "If I had the pain gas it would have all gone differently."

"If you had the pain gas I wouldn't have run into you in the first place," Cate replied. "Can we forget this and TRY to think of a way out of here?"

"It's possible you would have," Ash said, frowning. "Scarecrow has a gas filter in his stupid mask. And no, we can't think of a way out because JOKER over there is LISTENING!" She shouted, half to him and half to Cate.
The Joker chuckled evilly and switched his music over to a different song. This one about missing rum.

Cate shrugged. "We can brainstorm without talking. Nobody's perfect-- he can't read minds." Thoughtfully she added, "I wish I knew sign language."

"Or I could attempt to talk to him," Ash said. "Especially considering he can ALREADY HEAR ME." 'I bet I sound like an idiot.' "How about you get your ass in here and tell us what you're thinking?"
The Joker chuckled again, wondering whether he should listen to her.

"Let me know once you figure out why he'd let us out-- I'm sure he's having so much fun." After a second she added, "On second thought, tell me now. I'm curious."

Ash shrugged. "I'm sure a reason would come around, and if nothing else we can at least talk to an interesting character," Ash said, smirking, almost challengingly, at nothing.
Ohhh, was that directed at him? Was she trying to challenge him? How could she when she had nothing to challenge him with?

"Yeah, that's true," Cate agreed.
She grinned. "I won't get mad at you this time. Or kick you." She paused. "Wait, that was when you were unconscious."

"Is THAT why my side hurts?!" Ash exclaimed.
The Joker wondered what to do, go in and he'd be giving into them to see what they wanted, but stay out and he'd never know what goes on in their little heads. Either way, he'd have to deal with two extra people in his house now...

"Um... maybe?" Cate said guiltily. She couldn't help laughing at Ash's reaction. "You okay?" she asked.

"No!" Ash said, though she was smiling in some kind of bizarre hurt way, "My side hurts!"

Cate raised an eyebrow. "'How about your cheek? That's a bit worse than your side." Thoughtfully she added, "And I AM sorry about that. 'Course, I had a good reason to be angry."

"Well, yeah, that hurts too," Ash said, "especially when I smile..." Which made her frown. "But you didn't do that... right?"

"No!" Cate said. "Of course not." She frowned. "Also, if I had a knife, I probably would have tried to get us away."

Ash sighed and sat down carefully in a chair. "He's not coming in."
And she was right, The Joker had gone to the kitchen to get himself some kind of food.
