"It must be left to the authorities," Scarlett said simply.

"Even though half of them are corrupt?" Temperance brushed her hair away from her eyes again. "That doesn't seem like very good reasoning."

"They'll be taken care of too," Scarlett murmured.

Temperance's eyebrows were still raised. "That sounds a little harsh."

"It's the only way to fix this town," Scarlett said.

Temperance laughed. "Or you could just, like, pay them more. If you had money... oh, never mind. My point is, there aren't enough people for you to get rid of everybody who's corrupt."

(To meet Temperance? Say stuff about Scarlett's character? Come on, this is probably the first eight page conversation we've had that didn't say the exact same thing 20 times in a row.)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Lily sat at their table in the coffeeshop. This was a benchmark in their cooperation, going back to the place that had started the conflict that led to her discovery, the discovery of her, an alter ego of sorts. They were so different. For instance, at that moment, they were in a heated internal discussion on the local politics of the area, or, more particularly, whether it was even worth caring about.

Scarlett joined her and got right down to business, after passing Lily the drink she had bought for her. "I have control over the few remaining forces of the police department," she stated.

Lily blinked. "Hi," she said. "Good for you?"

"I want you to join me there," Scarlett responded, sipping her own drink. She was leaning forward over the table, which is the closest to excitement as you will get from her boring self.
