Knock, knock. Allie looked up from the dishes she was washing. Who was that? Her friends usually called before they came over. She walked over to the door and pulled it open cautiously, conscious of the fact that is could be Scarecrow or Paroxysm. But it was Aleenya. Allie's first instinct was to push the door close, but Aleenya pushed it back open. She was holding a gun. "Go sit down. Now," she ordered.
Allie did as she was told, both nervous and annoyed. Why did everyone have to pick on HER? And how many times in the past week had people threatened to gas or kill her? She sighed.
"What is it?" she asked.
"I just want to talk." Aleenya kept her voice smooth and even, hiding the pain she felt at walking even with her cane.
"Then why'd you bring a gun? Scared you couldn't fight with your little injury?" Allie found that she was still angry, even after all those years.
"I didn't think you'd want to talk to me. And by the look of it I was correct."
Allie sighed. She wouldn't say that she didn't need to talk to Aleenya-- she did. "What do you want?"
"I wanted to say that I'm sorry." Aleenya was sorry, since she still loved her little sister. But loving her didn't keep Aleenya from wanting revenge. Aleenya was a pretty good liar, so this should work out. "I've heard that you're having a little trouble. You got into a few bad fights with Paroxysm and you had a run-in with Scarecrow. I want to help you."
Allie stared at her. "How--"
"I know a lot of things, Allie."
Allie mind flew. Did that mean that she knew about the antidote? But then, did that matter? She had said she wanted to help Allie, and Allie was pretty sure that she meant it. After all, the whole reason that Aleenya had kidnapped Allie was because she loved Allie. So why shouldn't Allie believe Aleenya.
Aleenya kept going with the persuasion. She could tell that she was getting there, but she wasn't totally finished. "You need me, Allie. I can protect you-- you know I would. I've always wanted to take care of my little sister. You know that."
Allie hesitated. "You mean you'd help me stop Paroxysm from hurting me because of the antidote? And Scarecrow because from hurting me-- I don't know why he would--" Allie froze at the expression on Aleenya's face. It was evil-- that was the only way to describe it. And she realized that Aleenya wasn't sorry, and that Allie's little slip might cost her her life.
Aleenya grinned cruelly. "Thanks," she said. "That's what I wanted to know." She walked out the door, leaving Allie sitting dumbstruck in the chair.
Miserably, she thought about the last few weeks-- probably HER last few weeks. She saw Ash's bright red hair, Crane's sapphire eyes, and the Scarecrow through his mask. She saw that the Scarecrow also had sapphire blue eyes. And she realized that he was Crane. It all made sense-- how he knew about the antidote, the eyes, his similar height. And Ash had acted like something happened between her and Crane. Who knows-- maybe he had gassed her.
Allie thought about all her secrets leaking out, and she thought that this might too. She just couldn't tell anyone, anyone at all. Or Scarecrow would kidnap or kill her. Maybe use her as a test subject. She just hopped she didn't run into him anytime soon-- she needed time to digest this.
Meanwhile, she had to fix the Ash problem. She would keep some antidote with her and a gun, although she was horrible with a gun. If only she had a sword.
Aleenya probably wouldn't hurt her by herself-- she couldn't. She may be mad, but Allie knew Aleenya pretty well, and she knew that deep inside her sister still loved Allie. And maybe, just maybe, Allie still loved Aleenya.
Allie decided to keep a gun with herself. (Her? Herself? Huh? XD) She went back to the dished because there wasn't really anything else she could do.
