The Regal and Prestigious museum that Everyone Everywhere knows about. It's got art and stuff.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There had been no call during the night. It came bright and early in the morning, at a time half the world didn't believe existed. The Gotham Arts Museum called 911 at stupid o' clock in the morning when they discovered that one of their featured paintings had vanished in the night. Gordon called in Jean and Amelio and assigned them as partners for the case. Amelio was quite happy to have a case that didn't involve torture or death or any of the sort (yet). The two had been sent out to gather information from the workers and scene.
"So," Jean said, appearing behind Amelio at the scene of the crime. "What do we know?"
"Not much yet, but let's get to it," Amelio said. "The forensics have closed off the scene, and the curator is the angry one over there."
Jean nodded. "Let's go talk to her," she said.
They walked over to the woman, who was professionally dressed and ranting at a newer officer.
"Excuse me," Jean said, stepping into the conversation. "We're the officers in charge here. Could you fill us in?"
"You need to find our painting!" The woman responded immediately. "The gala is only a week away and she's the star of the show! Our shareholders will lose all their credibility!"
"I know that it's important," Jean said patiently. She pulled out a small notebook and a pen. "Could you tell me the monetary value of the painting? Also, could we speak with whoever is in charge of security?"
"Approximately 32 thousand dollars," the woman answered. "The head of security is Jessica Benito, inside. You ought to have her arrested, I tell you!"
"Is there any reason for you to think that Benito was involved in the theft?" Amelio asked.
"She let them get in!"
"Why do you think that?" Jean asked politely.
"There's no one in the world who could have gotten past our defense systems unless they were turned off!" The woman insisted.
Jean exchanged a look with Amelio. "We will, of course, take your suspicions into consideration. May we speak with her?"
Amelio definitely understood the shared look.
"Yes, fine," the woman said, crossing her arms. "I believe she's inside."
So the two walked into the building, amongst the crime scene photographers. The approached a room that had other officers in it watching over the head of security, who looked stunned and rather distraught.
