"Oh my.." Ash's mouth fell agape as she looked around with wide eyes.

"How did you get good at this?" Aleenya asked softly.
Allison smiled sadly. "Practice."

"When did you start?" Ash asked her, still peering around.

Allison glanced at her. "Ten or so years ago," she said lightly.

Carson's voice suddenly came from the entrance. "It's been a long time."

Aleenya didn't say anything right away, just looked at him.

He became visibly uncomfortable, and looked away. "Don't all stare like that, just keep talking," he muttered, rubbing his neck.

"I don't get it," Aleenya said slowly, more to her mother than her father. "This--" she gestured at the paintings-- "makes it seem like you've been thinking about me all this time. But... You stopped visiting me."
"I'm sorry," Allison said, just a little coldly, and looked away. Aleenya stared between her mother and the paintings and found she couldn't make sense of it.

"What happened?" Ash asked, carefully.

Allison shook her head and didn't answer.
"You just weren't there," Aleenya said flatly. "You just... weren't." She turned away and stared instead into a painting of Allie. It was soft and colorful, and suddenly she remembered how beautiful Allie had been. There were things she'd forgotten, when she stabbed that knife into her...

Ash stared at the ground, to avoid the overwhelmingness of the paintings. She stood closer to Aleenya, however.

"I don't know why I'm here," Aleenya whispered. "That's the worst part... No, the worst part is that you can't tell me. Because you don't know me." She looked at her mother. "You don't."
Allison didn't deny it. Instead she said, in an infuriatingly gentle voice, "I need to think, Aleenya. Before we have a real conversation. What would you say to meeting up with me in a week or so, so that we can talk then?"
Aleenya opened her mouth, and then closed it. And then opened it again. "Allie said she'd meet up with me, and then she turned me in." There was a distinct note of accusation in her voice.
Allison raised a hand. "I swear I won't. I swear... on all my memories of Allie that I will not do that to you again. Especially because of what you said about the killing." As almost an afterthought she added, "And it would be nice to talk to you alone."
It would be nice. She glanced at Ash, to see what she seemed to think.

Ash looked over at Aleenya with a gentle smile and nodded slightly.

"Okay," Aleenya said cautiously. "Okay. I'll just come back a week from today?"
Allison nodded. "I'll be here."
Aleenya took another deep breath and nodded at Ash. "Let's go, shall we?"

"Alright," Ash responded. "Thank you for having us," she said to Aleenya's parents.
